Khan pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess heroin, for which he faced an advisory Guidelines range of imprisonment of between 87 and 108 months. Cowan was sentenced to five years probation, which may be served inside or outside the United States. Why? "Although the offense is serious, the defendant has demonstrated remorse. Her presence at home is necessary for the care of her four children, for whom she is the sole provider and caretaker."
